To: N7YLA - Both LDSHAMS & WW-MARA are both up and running - We had Nevada Power put in new digital meters (Not my idea) - and it whacked LDSMAMS - which had been running for almost a year 320+ days straight w/o a hitch.  BTW - CQICC is also mine - It is up - but I cant access it - Im checking into

The LDSHAMS Echolink node appears to be offline.  When will it be back online?

How does your Stake Unit grow it's hams?
« on: April 11, 2007, 11:19:34 AM »
Our Milestone for our group is 100 licensed hams in the stake.  We are having 4 week sessions on night a week covering technician and general.  We have heard some some "weekend wonder" groups that start Friday night and continue on through Saturday afternoon with the test given then.   We have not tried it yet and are trying to get a lesson plan condensed enough for that.  What does your group do or not do?

We were very lucky. We have  a Husband and Wife team in Denver who're both relatively new (about 2 years) in Amateur Radio. They are both Extra's so they are very active in the hobby! They presented (fantastically) the course at the Stake Center in 6 weeks. On Saturdays, 2 hours a day. We were all expected to read the book during the week as well. I don't know of anyone who was in the class regularly that didn't pass the Technician test. We did have one person who passed the General written as well. I have not heard whether she's taken her certificate to another VE session for the upgrade since the CW requirement was removed.

I have also been discussing with the Scout Master in our ward about Field Day in hopes the scouts would like to participate. We'll see how well that goes this June.

Tempe South Stake started a class after our dismal emergency test with FRS radios a year ago.  In March of 2007 we started a class and had about 90+ take the class.  Every Thursday evening four weeks.  We had 5 VEC's come to our stake center and tested our group which netted 65 technicians and 3 generals.  Since then we have gotten about 6 more licensed.

We started a New Ham's Operator Net on a local repeater and have about 20 checkins each Thursday evening.  We are getting more and more interest.  Very soon we will have the City of Tempe fire come to our stake center and give us CERT training.  The city is very excited about our group of hams.
