Are there any other MARS folks around??
You see, wire telegraph is a kind of a very, very long cat. You pull his tail in New York and his head is meowing in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? And radio operates exactly the same way: you send signals here, they receive them there. The only difference is that there is no cat.

Not sure if you mean MARS (made up of military or X military personnel) or if you mean MARA. In the case of MARS, there are lots of members and a quick Google of the subject should bring results. If you are after MARA (Mercury Amateur Radio Association) made up of mostly LDS members involved in emergency preparedness it has become dissolved. In place of it are various Mercury nets which are made up of LDS members still acting in emergency preparedness rolls but in a private distinct way not supported by the body of the church directly. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints encourages members to belong to such groups and to be of value to not just church and other members but also to their communities they are a part of. You can get current info from:

http://www.mara.net/

I occasionally check in with with Mercury NW net on Monday evenings at 9 PM on 3.965 MHz. They have a web site at:

http://www.maranw.net/index.php

Lots of good information at both places for members and non-members alike. Hope that this has been of some help unless of course you were really looking for info on MARA.    :D

Hi Sean,

Thanks for replying. You would be welcomed heartily on Army MARS nets up there in Region 10. There is one every morning at 1300Z on KFJ lsb that I try to hit, and another at 1400Z on KCF lsb. I am usually on my way to work and miss that one. Besides Army stations, Navy/MC and TSA stations check in at times. We have a Saturday net at 1400Z on KCC lsb here in region 9. If you do not have the Freq. designater list, I can send it to you in a PM. Hope to hear you on one of these nets.

Hi list...

I'm also new and am also AAR0OZ, Army in Oregon, and Ward Disaster Radio Communications Coordinator..  Am VHF/ UHF only as am in a City Building where I can't have HF radios!

Retired Professional Technician, both Western Union and also worked in Mobile Radio Communications.  Either one was lots of fun, and learned a lot while being paid!.

And this is my own origional call, not a reissue!

Best wishes,

Dick

Hello Dick,

Sorry to hear they won't let you do HF. Is that due to antenna restrictions?

I try to get on the Region 10 HF alpha net every morning 6am local time. Checkins from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah and sometimes Arizona are common. Propagation into the central coast of California is good to excellent almost year round.

Thanks for responding,

John w6wjb/AAT9DI/AAM9CA
