Mobile Capacitors
« on: September 22, 2011, 05:17:34 PM »
The crowd with the big boom boom car audio systems use large capacitors to
deliver that needed instant burst of DC voltage when the bass drum hits. MFJ
picked up on this idea with their portable adapter made for the ICOM IC-706
radio series. That unit is able to run full power SSB off a car lighter socket
knowing that the uncompressed speech peaks are a low percentage of the human
voice.
In doing a little online research I found that the rule of thumb in the audio
world is one fared per 1000 watts. Without going out and buying a bunch of
capacitors, has anyone here messed around with this stuff? I have a 706 would
like to use this set up for portable operation and it seems like a great idea,
right up until I switch to FM that is.
